CAD/3D Design + IoT Projects

Significant experience developing IoT-enabled hardware devices from scratch. Developed, fundraised, and launched a series of products for social good. Skillsets include working with ABS, PLA, wood, and acrylic to develop prototypes, CAD modeling with Rhino, Cinema4D, and Autodesk, circuit board dev with PCBs, Matlab, Arduino, Python, and Raspberry Pi, and Photoshop, InDesign, Sketch, and Figma for visual design.

IntelliSplash

Formerly known as IntelliH2O, IntelliSplash(tm) is a water purity tester and tracker device that connects to your smartphone via bluetooth to an Arduino-based device.

IntelliSplash allows the user to leave the bluetooth device attached to the water source for an extended period of time. IntelliSplash automatically creates a data entry in an auto-generated graph as it gathers data from the sensor.

IntelliSplash goes off of a scale with four categories based on Parts-per-Million (ppm)

A mathematical model was derived using Least Squares Best Fit against a known set of conditions to convert the Arduino measurements to equivalent Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in Parts-per-Million.

IntelliSplash has been used as the topic of my nearly 75-page in-depth Research Paper, viewable online here.

IntelliSplash has been featured/Won the following Awards:

Social Venture Partners 1st Place Fast Pitch Winner

Featured in the Seattle Times

Mentioned by Bill Gates on Twitter and Facebook

Featured in GeekWire

Won Youth Apps Challenge Wizard Award

Featured in Asian Weekly

Awarded as a Conrad Summit Diplomat for the Spirit of Innovation Challenge

Custom Wireless Audio Transmitter/Receiver

In-depth electrical engineering/circuit design project that served as a wireless audio transmitter and receiver kit. The transmitter takes in a music signal in the 20 - 20,000 kHz range, performs amplitude modulation by transposing the signal (in the mixer) over a 1 MHz carrier signal (generated by a local oscillator), amplifies the modulated signal, and outputs the modulated and amplified signal over an antenna.

The receiver captures that signal using its own antenna, demodulates that signal to isolate the music signal, amplifies the music signal, and feeds the output signal into a speaker that plays the music.

Both the transmitter and the receiver subsystems are powered by a power supply, which takes in alternating current (AC) power from the wall socket of 120 VRMS and produces a direct current (DC) positive and negative 15 Volts.

For this project, I designed each individual component and proceeded to hand-solder each part using components sourced from Penn Engineering resources. I also wrote the majority of a 100-page detailed lab report/research paper, linked below.

IntelliBorder

IntelliBorder is a geofencing iPhone app connected via a wifi hotspot to an Arduino Device. Simply place the device with your child or in their backpack, and you can set a radius and location in the iPhone app. If they ever leave that zone, the user will receive an instant text message with a google maps url notifying the user of the device's location. Additionally, the user can access a cloud database with latitude and longitude coordinates of the device updated every five seconds.

Auto Bed Leveler

The Auto Bed Leveler arm for the Prusa I3 3D printer tests all four corners of the build platform and can print on very uneven plate conditions. I custom designed a servo mount to fit my printer, and creative alternatives were needed to add the additional servo onto the Arduino board with no additional PWM servo ports available. Additional coding work was also required to leverage the non-standard port used and to handle the leveling given the base assumption that the glass surface was linear across all dimensions.

IntelliDoor

IntelliDoor is an iPhone-controlled Biometric secret door, built for fun into my own house. It is the back wall to a closet, secured by a powerful magnetic lock. Simply open the app on your phone to unlock the door once it scans your fingerprint (older phones) or face ID (iPhone X), leveraging the platform's biometrics capabilities and the door will open.

IntelliFridge

IntelliFridge proactively monitors your freezer and refrigerator for optimal efficiency and indicates if there's a risk of spoilage or frost damage to your groceries. Additionally, if there's a power failure, it will track the state of your refrigerated and frozen goods if they’re at risk of spoilage.

Just for Fun

Designed and 3D Printed human-size replicas of weapons used in the LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu TV show. Drew attention from the creators of Ninjago (including Tommy Andreasen), the lead team of writers on the show (including Bragi Schut), and the rock band that does the theme music for the show (The Fold). Was able to sell several copies as assembly kits.
